The maze of energy renovation grants, across Europe and Canada

The European Union has set ambitious goals to decarbonise the building stock: the revised EPBD 2024 mandates progressive renovation of the worst-performing buildings by 2030, 2033 and 2050. To support this trajectory, each member state deploys its own schemes — subsidies, zero-interest loans, tax credits, energy bonuses — with its own rates, conditions, ceilings and managing authorities. In Canada the same logic plays out across three tiers: federal, provincial, and energy utilities.

The result: a mosaic of 189 open schemes out of 223 documented, across 43 countries and regions, changing multiple times a year. MaPrimeRénov' in France, KfW 458 and BAFA BEG in Germany, ISDE and Warmtefonds in the Netherlands, Ecobonus and Conto Termico 3.0 in Italy, Boiler Upgrade Scheme and ECO4 in the UK, Czyste Powietrze in Poland, Nová Zelená Úsporám in Czechia, Save on Energy in Ontario, CleanBC in British Columbia, LogisVert in Quebec… each with its specifics.

A sourced calculator, not an installer comparator

Embuild does not sell works, leads, or quotes. Our only goal: give you verified, sourced, up-to-date information on energy renovation grants in your country or region — across Europe and Canada.

For every scheme, we cite the managing authority, the decree or law that creates it, the direct link to the official source, and the date we last checked the information. Automated monitoring scans official pages weekly to detect any change.

Heat pump, insulation, solar PV: what grants in 2026?

The major 2026 schemes cover the full renovation journey: wall and roof insulation, air-to-water and geothermal heat pumps, solar and thermodynamic water heaters, residential photovoltaics, mechanical ventilation, energy audits, and deep renovation. Depending on the country and your situation, stacking grants can cover 60% to 90% of the project cost.

The Embuild simulator automatically applies eligibility rules (owner-occupier or landlord status, residence type, building age, income bracket, contractor certification) and identifies stacking incompatibilities declared in official texts.

Frequently asked questions

Is Embuild free to use?
Yes. The simulator and all grant documentation are free, without mandatory sign-up. We don't sell your data, leads, or works quotes.
Where does the data come from?
Only from official sources: ministries, state agencies, regional authorities, legal publications. No installer or third-party comparator.Read our methodology
Can grants be combined?
Most of the time yes, but with country-specific rules (caps, exclusions, application order). Our simulator detects incompatibilities declared in official texts.
Do I need a certified contractor for the grants?
For most grants yes: RGE in France, MCS in the UK, Fachunternehmererklärung in Germany, ISDE-approved installer in the Netherlands, etc.
How often are rates updated?
Weekly via automated monitoring of official pages, plus a deep manual review each quarter. Each scheme displays its last verification date.
Which countries are covered?
The 27 EU member states, the EEA countries, the UK, Switzerland and Canada. Belgium counts as three separate entities (Wallonia, Flanders, Brussels-Capital) and Canada as the federal level plus its provinces, because that is the level at which the schemes are decided.See every jurisdiction
